General Distributors Incorporated (GDi) was formed in 1994 when it purchased small Albuquerque based wholesaler New Mexico Sales.  New Mexico Sales, a southwestern tradition since the 1940's, had grown steadily from a small meat and cheese jobber to a full line grocery company, servicing stores throughout New Mexico and northern Arizona. With one eye on the future and the other on the needs of its customers, New Mexico Sales carved a niche for itself amid stiff competition from a variety of larger wholesalers.  New Mexico Sales managed to differentiate itself from its competitors by developing a reputation for meeting the ever-changing needs of its retail partners.

Now

Having just celebrated our ten-year anniversary, we at GDi look to the future with the same enthusiasm and determination that led to our successes over the past decade.  From Carlsbad to Page, and from Pagosa Springs to Phoenix, GDi has grown to service more than 450 grocery and convenience accounts across five states.  As our industry has changed, so have we.  While GDi will always be first and foremost a grocery distributor, we have expanded our offerings and services to include more convenience products and food service supplies.  Our substantial growth over the first five years prompted us to move into a new facility, nearly tripling our floor space.  Fleet expansions and technological advances have allowed us to stay ahead of the curve as our business continues to grow.  Our 65 plus associates, most with more than five years with the company, are a stable and resourceful group, all with the common goal of expanding our business by helping our customers reach their goals.  While our growth has allowed us to meet the needs of larger supermarket customers, we remain versatile enough to adapt quickly to new challenges and the changing needs of our business.
